199 flood victims at relief centres in Melaka

MELAKA,. The number of flood victims at three evacuation centres in Melaka remained at 199 people from 48 families as of 8 am today.

Melaka Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Kol (PA) Effendy Ali said the victims are from Kampung Tehel and Kampung Parit Gantong in Jasin, as well as Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Bukit Balai, Kampung Pulau and Kampung Belimbing in Alor Gajah.

In Jasin, he said 121 people from 29 families were placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tehel, while 62 people from 16 families took shelter at SK Parit Gantong.

“In Alor Gajah, the evacuation centre at SK Durian Tunggal houses 13 victims from three families,” he said in a statement.

The weather in the state is reported fine.

According to Effendy, who is also state Disaster Management Committee Secretariat head, the water level in Sungai Duyong at Jasin, is rising, while Sungai Durian Tunggal in Alor Gajah is receding.
