McDonald’s Malaysia pays RM1 million business tithe this year
KUALA LUMPUR,. McDonald’s Malaysia paid a business tithe amounting to RM1 million (about US$247,000) to all 14 states in Malaysia this year.
Its managing director and local operating partner Azmir Jaafar said the company started paying tithe since 2017 after being taken over by Lionhorn Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Reza Group.
“McDonald’s Malaysia handed over tithe to the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) and the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) in two separate ceremonies this week.
“We hope our contribution to all states will continue to help the poor, especially during this difficult time,” he said in a statement Friday.
Azmir said McDonald’s Malaysia is the first business entity to receive the Corporate Zakat Payer Recognition Certificate from PPZ-MAIWP.
He said the company is also working closely with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) to continue upholding its halal commitment to its customers in all aspects of business.
