Perak target Malaysia Cup to get into AFC Cup

IPOH,. It won’t be easy to lift the Malaysia Cup but that won’t stop Perak coach Mehmet Durakovic’s men from giving it their best as they seek to kill two birds with one stone.

The coach said winning the Malaysia Cup would be a bonus for them as it would mean getting an automatic spot in the AFC Cup next season.

“If we can achieve that, it would be a huge success for us,” he said when met at a press conference at Fitness Life Style here today.

Perak Football Association (PAFA) president and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu had earlier today said he was optimistic that the team could regain the coveted Cup they last won in 2018.

Meanwhile, Perak skipper Shahrul Saad said winning the Malaysia Cup would help him and his teammates to make amends for not meeting the initial target of finishing as runners-up in the recently-concluded Super League after losing 3-2 to Kedah on Oct 11. Kedah ended up second and Perak third behind seven-time champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

“However, I will stay positive and focused for the Malaysia Cup. I also hope all my teammates will do the same and forget about the heartache we suffered in the Super League,” he said, adding that the knockout format to be introduced for the competition meant it would be a level playing field for all teams.
