Two flood evacuation centres opened in Tanah Merah tonight

KOTA BHARU,. Two temporary flood evacuation centres were opened tonight at 9 pm in Tanah Merah to house 18 evacuees from six families following heavy rain yesterday.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s disaster information portal, the centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lawang is currently housing 10 evacuees from four families, while eight evacuees from two families are seeking shelter at PPS SK Kelewek.

Meanwhile, according to infobanjir.water.gov.my, Sungai Kelantan in Kuala Krai recorded a water level of 21.46 metres (m), above the alert level of 20 m. Three other rivers also recorded levels above the alert level, namely Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang with 8.21 m (alert level of 7 m), Sungai Golok in Jenob, Tanah Merah (22.13 m, alert level of 21.50 m), and Sungai Galas in Limau Kasturi, Gua Musang (57.23 m, alert level of 56 m).

Yesterday, the Irrigation and Drainage Department forecast floods would occur from 10 pm tonight at Gua Musang and Kuala Krai districts, following rising water levels at Sungai Galas, Sungai Nal and Sungai Pahi due to heavy rain.

Areas affected in Gua Musang include Kampung Limau Kasturi and its surrounding areas, while in Kuala Krai, Kampung Bedal, Kampung Bukit Sireh, Taman Warisan, Kampung Kuala Pertang, Kampung Ngagoh and Kampung Pahi are affected.

The Malaysian Meteorology Department issued a bad weather warning with heavy rain expected until tomorrow in east coast states involving Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang and Kuala Krai in Kelantan, Besut, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu as well as Kuantan in Pahang.
