Lubuk Mandi to become new tourist attraction in Terengganu
MARANG,. Lubuk Mandi or also known as ‘Tasik Pepsi Blue’ will be made a new tourist attraction in Mukim Rusila here to woo more visitors to Terengganu.
State Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said adequate facilities would be provided and existing infrastructure in the area such as hiking trail would be upgraded before opening it to tourists.
“It’s greenish-blue water offers a breathtaking view and we will discuss with relevant parties such as the Marang District Office and the state assembly office (for the Rhu Rendang constituency) to develop this area. Our priority is the safety of visitors.
“We will turn it into a popular tourism spot just like Kawah Putih di Bandung, Indonesia, a lake that was formed by a volcanic eruption which has now become among the world’s top tourist destinations,” he told reporters after visiting Lubuk Mandi here.
Ariffin said Lubuk Mandi’s location which situated about 16 kilometres from Kuala Terengganu has made it easier for tourists to come to the lake to enjoy its panoramic view and take pictures.
“It takes only about five to 10 minutes for visitors to reach the area where they get to see and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake. There is a residential area located near Lubuk Mandi so it can be easily accessed by the public,” he said.
Lubuk Mandi is a man-made lake that was formed by gold mining activities that used to be popular in the surrounding area.
However, the mining activities in the area were ordered to be stopped a few years ago following several tragedies that claimed the lives of miners including landslides, and it ended up became a restricted area.
Lubuk Mandi has recently become Internet fame after several pictures of the breathtaking view of the lake and its surroundings were shared on social media.Meanwhile, Ariffin advised the public not to encroach on the restricted lake area for safety reasons until it is officially open to visitors.
